Pixar Layoffs - November 22 2013

Pixar has announced a layoff of about 5% of their 1200 person workforce. That's around 60 people who've lost their jobs just before the Thanksgiving.Holiday in the US.

Tough when that happens anywhere.

Pixar will not have a feature film in release for 2014. The movie they're working on - The Good Dinosaur - has had its release date pushed from May 2014 to November 2015. That's a stretch of a year and a half.

This was first published in the LA Times article here.

Pixar had previously shut down their studio in Vancouver BC so the trend continues towards shedding weight and making adjustments.

I'm certain the extra time will make for an extra special movie.

Meanwhile, here we have another example of why it's wise to develop an independent aspect to one's career cuz ya never know what's going to happen with work-for-hire. This is a great opportunity for artists who've lost their employment to develop something new and exciting and go with crowdfunding and see what happens!

AnimationNation is here to help get the word out about what you're doing.

Wishing everyone good luck and good times creating!
