Unusual hand drawn animation by Glovebox

A newcomer to the Forums, Glovebox posted a different kind of video to the Gallery. A film in progress, she states that she's been animating for four to five months. Glovebox says that although her vision is outrunning her abilities at the moment, with practice they'll both be at the same pace. I'm sure of that as this video can attest. Great music and intriguing imagery.

Grandma's Dream - An Indiegogo campaign

There's a crowdfunding campaign in progress on Indiegogo for an animated project that looks interesting. It's a traditionally animated project, pencil on paper, and involves a dream that the animator's grandmother had many years ago. Going by 'animax' on the Forums, he brought this to our attention this past March 25. With two weeks left to the campaign, let's feature it on AN's homepage and get the word out a little more about what he's trying to do. Follow this link to the Forum topic and the preceding link for more details. Here's the video explaining what 'mi abela' is about with English subtitles.

Please note that Indiegogo is a crowdfunding site that differs from Kickstarter. The campaign doesn't necessarily have to match its monetary goal in order to be funded. Whatever monies are raised by the time the campaign ends, the project gets to keep with only a larger fee going to Indiegogo for the service than if they were to have reached the goal.

Jim Henson's original pitch for 'The Muppet Show'

If you're selling an idea for a television series, you've got to pitch the concept first. Sometime in the mid-1970s, Jim Henson, the creator of The Muppets, came up with this pitch to the executives of the CBS Network in the US. The video has been published on MSN.com today and posted in the AN Forums. Enjoy this special look at television history, and check out the context of the MSN article here.

North Korean Animation

I brought this topic up last summer, and ANer Ari who goes by Bloodwind on the Forums started a topic on the same subject.

North Korea has a long tradition of producing quality animation. Although almost all of it is wrapped in political propaganda, it is none the less very fine work that I'm happy to bring to a wider awareness by featuring it here on AN's homepage. This topic is being developed with more North Korean animation and you're welcome to follow it here. Meanwhile, let's take a look at what Bloodwind brought to our attention. There's no translation or subtitles available and I don't know when it was made, but the quality of animation can still be appreciated as well as the message that the regime is trying to convey.

A tour through Pixar with CNN

Here's a video I discovered recently that went online a couple of years ago and is well worth sharing as it gives us a good look inside Pixar's studio, including John Lasseter's office and a glimpse at their swimming pool and volleyball court. It's from CNN and was taped when Pixar was producing 'Up'.
